It never ceases to amaze me how people can come together for a coworker, friend or family member when it comes to supporting them during a battle with cancer. Bravo Baskets has had several orders for support baskets recently and we’ve compiled a checklist of items that everyone can appreciate while receiving treatment for chemotherapy and/or radiation:
- BIG tumbler for holding water. Staying hydrated during treatments can be hard and while some people are used to getting their 32+ ounces a day in, some aren’t. We usually try to include a sturdy tumbler with a built-in straw and handle for ease of use.
- Moisturizer especially formulated for chemo and radiation skin challenges. There are several that have been developed just for this specific use that can help chronically thin or irritated skin from treatments. These creams (and lip balms) usually don’t have fragrances or other harmful chemicals that sensitive skin can’t handle.
- Port friendly tops. Patients that have a chemo schedule spread out over months usually have a medical port installed so hooking up to treatments is easy. Treatment rooms tend to be kept colder, so warmer wear can be helpful any time of year. Shawls with buttons and headscarfs are also popular.
- Anti-nausea candy like Gin-Gins and the like are also helpful to keep food and fluids down.
- Books, like their favorite novel or coloring and activity books are a helpful distraction from screens and can help time in the hospital go by faster.
If you know of someone starting their cancer treatment and want to send something to their home or hospital, contact Bravo Baskets to design something wonderful for them.
